Travelers Home Insurance provides homeowners with protection for their homes, personal belongings and financial assets against covered losses. A typical Travelers homeowners policy can include dwelling coverage, personal property coverage, other structures coverage, personal liability protection and loss-of-use coverage. These protections can help cover eligible repair or rebuilding costs, damaged belongings, liability claims and additional living expenses when a covered loss temporarily prevents a homeowner from living in the property.
One of Travelers' strongest features is its extended replacement-cost coverage. Forbes Advisor reports that eligible Travelers policies can provide an additional 25% or 50% above the dwelling coverage limit when rebuilding costs exceed the selected amount. Travelers also offers Platinum Plus coverage in eligible markets, which can provide additional protection and benefits.
Travelers provides several opportunities for homeowners to reduce their premiums. Discounts may be available for bundling multiple policies, installing qualifying protective devices, maintaining a loss-free record, purchasing a home within the previous 12 months and having a qualifying green home. Travelers also offers discounts for certain smart-home technologies, security systems, fire alarms and automatic water shut-off systems.
Customers can request a Travelers homeowners insurance quote online using their ZIP code or work with a Travelers representative or independent agent. However, Travelers notes that online quotes are not currently available for risks located in Alaska, Florida, Hawaii and Louisiana, so customers in those states may need to contact an agent.
The biggest consideration is price. Forbes Advisor's current analysis places Travelers among the most expensive insurers it reviewed, with an average of $5,172 per year for $350,000 of dwelling coverage, compared with a national average of $2,720. However, actual pricing can differ substantially based on the property and location.
Standard homeowners insurance generally does not cover floods or earthquakes, although separate policies or additional coverage may be available for certain risks.
